01 — THE MATERIAL
What Is Tungsten Carbide?
Tungsten is an exceptionally dense and hard metal with an extremely high melting point. For jewelry, tungsten is combined with carbon to create tungsten carbide — a material valued for its strength, weight and resistance to everyday surface wear.
Quality tungsten rings are generally produced using approximately 85% tungsten carbide together with a binding alloy such as nickel. This balance helps create a ring that is extremely hard while still being suitable for daily wear.
Pure tungsten is not normally used by itself for jewelry. Carbon and a binding material are required to create the durable tungsten carbide used in rings.

If you prefer a ring with noticeable weight and a strong, premium feel, tungsten is an excellent choice. If you prefer something extremely lightweight, titanium may suit you better.
03 — DURABILITY
Can Tungsten Rings Get Scratched?
Yes — but tungsten carbide is considerably more scratch resistant than most metals commonly used in jewelry.
Scratch resistant does not mean completely scratch proof. Very hard materials such as diamonds, sapphires, certain minerals and abrasive surfaces can still leave marks on tungsten.
For ordinary everyday wear, however, tungsten performs exceptionally well. Marks that may appear relatively quickly on softer metals are generally much harder to create on a tungsten carbide surface.
Tungsten combines a clean modern appearance, substantial weight and excellent resistance to everyday wear — making it particularly well suited for rings that are worn day after day.
